(CCSSI) Crypto Currency Security Standard Implementer

Who is a CryptoCurrency Security Standard Implementer?

A CryptoCurrency Security Standard Implementer is an expert in the CCSS. A CCSS Implementer is responsible for designing, building, and operationalizing secure digital-asset systems that comply with the CryptoCurrency Security Standard. They translate CCSS requirements into real-world architecture, workflows, and controls so an organization can meet the standard in practice.

CCSSIs have professional working knowledge in all aspect controls of the CryptoCurrency Security Standard (CCSS).

Is the CCSS Implementer Track Right For Me?

C4 has two tracks related to the CCSS.

  • CCSSI (Implementer) Track: Design and sequence controls for a real system, map gaps to requirements, and produce practical artifacts (procedures, diagrams, key ceremony documentation).
  • CCSSA (Auditor) Track: Plan and execute an audit workflow end-to-end. Scoping and sampling, evidence-gathering, interviews, and defensible findings.

To find out which path is right for you, take our self assessment.

Get Certified

Every prospective CCSSI must take C4’s official CCSS Foundations and CCSSI Implementer Training courses. These live, instructor-led online trainings build the practical, real-world skills needed to securely design and operate systems that align with the CCSS.

During the 2-day Foundations course, candidates develop a strong baseline across all CCSS requirements. They learn the structure of the Standard, key terminology, threat models, and how each aspect functions in practice through case studies and fictional systems. Foundations ensures every candidate speaks the same language before progressing into implementer-focused training.

During the 2-day Implementer course, candidates learn how to implement CCSS controls in real systems while meeting each entity where it is. They learn how to assess a system’s current state and map gaps to CCSS requirements; choose appropriate control designs such as HSM vs MPC, HD vs JBOK, and various policy-engine patterns; and build an Implementation Approach that sequences work, assigns owners, and manages dependencies. Candidates also practice drafting the practical artifacts required for successful implementation, including procedures, architecture diagrams, and key material compromise plans.

Together, these four days give CCSSI candidates both the knowledge and the practical skills required to build systems that meet the CryptoCurrency Security Standard.

  1. You must complete the CCSS Foundations and CCSSI Implementer Training in order to be eligible to take the exam. You can purchase the trainings here.
  2. After completing training, you will gain access to the CCSSI exam, which must be completed within 6 months of finishing the courses.
  3. Upon passing, you will receive your Certification ID and Certificate.

Exam Information

Once you've completed the training, you will have 6 months to take your exam from the date of purchase. Once you begin the exam you will only have 90 minutes to answer all 100 questions.

The exam includes 100 multiple-choice and true/false questions covering each of the 41 aspect controls of the CCSS.  The exam is time-limited to 90 minutes. A passing grade of 70% is required for certification.  If you fail the exam, you will have one retake. After that, you can pay to take the exam again. You will not be certified until you have successfully passed the exam.

During the exam, you will be asked questions related to real-world scenarios which are provided to you during the training.

Recertification

Because CCSSI is a new designation as of November 2025, every Implementer will be earning this certification for the first time. All CCSSIs must renew annually to show they understand the current version of the Standard and the latest best practices for secure system implementation.

The renewal path depends on which trainings the CCSSI has previously completed.

1. First-time CCSSIs (all candidates for the initial launch)

Since CCSSI is new, all prospective CCSSIs will complete both the CCSS Foundations and CCSSI Implementer Training before taking the exam. For future renewals, the specific requirements will depend on updates to the Standard. Renewal discounts will apply to any required training; the exam is included.

These courses ensure every active CCSSI has the same baseline knowledge and implementation approach.

2. Future CCSSIs who have already completed official training

After the first cohort, any CCSSI who has already completed C4’s official Foundations and Implementer Training will have a lighter renewal path. Depending on the scope of changes in the latest CCSS version release, they may only need to complete a short update module, or no training at all. When updated training is required, it focuses solely on new and revised requirements and is significantly shorter than the full initial training. Recertification is dependent on passing the most current CCSSA exam.
Recertification requires passing the most current CCSSI exam.

Renewal Discounts and Training

Certified CCSSIs receive a 25% renewal discount via the email used for prior registration, beginning 6 months before their expiration date. Because training is required to renew, the discount applies to the training cost, and the exam fee is included.

If your CCSSI certification is active at renewal:
You will receive the 25% discount on the required training. The training price includes the exam.

If your CCSSI certification has lapsed:
The 25% discount does not apply. Registration is at the standard training price, which still includes the exam.

Terms and Conditions

The use of the certification mark is intended to indicate that the services in association with which it is used are of the following defined standard: services to be provided using the certification mark are provided by persons who have satisfactorily completed an examination prepared and administered by the applicant for the purposes of measuring skill with respect to professional knowledge of exam material as well as acceptance of the applicant’s code of ethics in force at the relevant time. Initial certification is for one (1) year and it is the responsibility of each user of the certification mark to renew his or her certification every one (1) year thereafter by meeting the following requirement: The user must satisfactorily complete a current examination prepared and administered by the applicant for the purposes of ensuring the user possesses professional knowledge of exam material as well as acceptance of the applicant’s code of ethics in force at the relevant time.

The CryptoCurrency Security Standard (CCSS) has been updated to version 9.0. See the updated CCSS here.

Systems certified under 8.1 are still valid.
