The CryptoCurrency Security Standard (CCSS) does not follow a fixed release schedule. Instead, new versions are published as needed to address changes in technology, emerging security threats, industry best practices, and feedback from the community.
The standard is maintained by the CCSS Steering Committee, whose mission is to ensure that CCSS remains up to date with industry best practices while maintaining its neutrality. The committee reviews proposed changes, discuss emerging technologies and risks, and guide the ongoing development of the standard.
When updates are warranted, new versions are developed through C4’s standards development process with input from industry professionals and subject matter experts.
When a new version of CCSS is released, transition guidance is published to explain how existing certified systems and audits are affected. This allows entities to understand when they must adopt the new version and how it impacts future audits and recertifications.
Entities using CCSS should periodically review the latest version of the standard and any accompanying guidance to ensure they remain aligned with current requirements and best practices.
